Rock Climbing Summer Camp
at the New River Gorge, WV

rock climbing summer camp

Our Rock Climbing Summer Camp Programs are held in the world-class climbing area the New River Gorge National Park.  Located in Southern West Virginia, the "New" is known for it's high quality sandstone with over 3000 single-pitch sport and traditional climbs plus bouldering. We offer two camp programs, Lil-Grom Day Camps (ages 8-12) and Teen Rock Camp (ages 13-18).

Our camp programs are ideal for kids who are motivated climbers, providing them with an opportunity to experience outdoor climbing, while they learn about the techniques and skills necessary to do so safely. We maintain small group sizes that allow us to cater to both newer climbers and those with more experience looking to push themselves in the grades. Our typical camper profile varies from your occasional climber to kids who participate on their local climbing gym teams.

Lil-Grom Day Camps Ages 8-12:
New for 2011 we will be holding a day-camp program for kids age 8-12 years old. We'll meet once a week on Tuesdays in May/June and spend a half day learning the ropes, it's the perfect way to introduce your kids to rock climbing.

Affordably priced at $125 per child, for 4 weeks, sibling discount is available. We'll teach them everything they need to know and provide all the equipment necessary including: climbing shoes, harnesses, helmets and all technical climbing equipment.

2011 Dates: May 31, June 7, June 14, June 21 (Tuesdays)

Teen Rock Camp Ages 13-18:
This camp is suitable for co-ed teens age 13-18 who are new to climbing as well as those who are totally addicted to it. We'll lay a solid foundation of climbing skills with an emphasis on decision making skills and exercising sound judgment. RockCampers will learn to advance their climbing technique, knowledge of gear and equipment, and the importance of ethics, teamwork, problem-solving, and trust.

Teen Rock Camp curriculum includes climbing skills such as knots, belaying, rappelling, and mock-lead climbing with the safety of back-up top rope. RockCampers will also learn valuable outdoor skills such as camping, cooking, water treatment, Leave No Trace practices, leadership and natural history.

Our Staff:

Our guiding standards are the among the best in the industry and represent the highest standards.

Teen Rock Camp Program:
This 7 day over-night camp is geared towards introducing teens to outdoor rock climbing, while reinforcing teamwork and cooperation. Each day we'll go to a new climbing area from the New River Gorge to Summersville Lake. We maintain a low camper to guide ratio of 4 to 1 to maximize experiential learning time on the rock. We keep the group size small with a maximum of 8 campers per session. This ensures that each Rock Camper will receive individualized instruction that will help challenge his/her climbing ability and expand their knowledge of outdoor climbing in an appropriate manner.
